Okay, here's an odd dream for the ASAH gang to take a whack at!

If anyone remembers a post of mine a little while ago, I had said that a person who's geographically far away from me came to "visit"--was always hanging around, ghost-like, although he's very much alive, for a while, then he left. (This thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=245&topic_id=81836)

Well, last night I had my first dream about him. Anybody want to try interpreting this one??

He was in Ireland. (It's not where he lives IRL.) He jumped into a pond on a dare/as a joke, fully clothed, and found the water only came up to his chest. Big laughs from him and his friends. As he was climbing out, he reached down into the mud and came up with a statue that was long and narrow, kind of like a baseball bat (but shorter, maybe 18"). When he cleaned it up he saw it was an ancient Celtic statue of a woman, carved out of a dark green stone--marble, I think. He took it to some authorities, and they said it was a statue of Brigid and that it was thousands of years old.

He took it home with him but was planning on turning it over to a museum in a day or two. Then I was there, helping him, kind of as an assistant. I was pathetically in love with him but didn't tell him. (Hee--don't tell Mr. MG this part.) He started dragging his heels about giving up the statue, and then suddenly it turned into a real woman. Er, goddess. She was very tall and beautiful and very, VERY fierce--a warrior. He fell in love with her immediately, and I was heartbroken. He followed her around like a puppy, but she was "above" it all and took his love as a kind of matter of course--the worship she was due. Note: She wasn't mean or evil. She was just...a goddess, not at all human.

Just when I had given up all hope and was going to quit working for him because my broken heart couldn't take another minute, he seemed to "wake up" and realize that he couldn't actually "be" with Brigid. So he led her to the door and kissed her goodbye. She was stunned, unable to understand how someone could stop worshipping her. He closed the door and came back into the room. I asked him what happened to Brigid, and he said he let her go. (Although those might not have been his actual words, so I wouldn't put too much weight on them.) I said I was really sorry about that (sympathy for his "breakup"), and he said he wasn't sorry, and then kissed me. (Hee--definitely don't tell Mr. MG THAT part!) So we ended up together, and I was so, so happy. I think, at the end, Brigid returned to statue form on the table near us.

Yeahhh I think that's a major :wtf: --for me, anyway! I honestly haven't got a clue. Anyone...? Anyone...? Bueller? Bueller?

1. As a mostly literal thinker
I am pretty pathetic at dream analysis.

Without going into more detail, I had a :wtf: about my dream last night, which has been unlike any I have had for decades. And I am definitely NOT telling Mr. Celebration about it.

Honestly, I have been shaking my head all morning.

Hopefully our dreams are somehow related to clearing out a bunch of stuff. I think our cells and nervous system "know" what to dream. We are exposed to all this in our third eye in our dream state, and our different brainwave pattern when asleep helps clear out this stuff.

The problem would only come in recurring dreams. That indicates an incomplete clearing process. That happens in PTSD. So EMDR and other therapies that try to simulate the dream state can help then.

So, I am not going to attempt to analyze your dream. I find it as funny as you did. I'd love to hear what people say about it. I just know that I am not about to recount here my dream from last night. :)

Whether or not you find the meaning of the dream, just know that it was no accident that you had the dream.

2. No accident--that's for sure
Medical people say that sleep is essential for the body to rest, rejuvenate, and release toxins. Native American spirit workers (and others of course) say that sleep is essential for the ethereal body to wander free from the physical body for a while, rejuvenating the spirit and using the time to commune with our soul family. And sleep is also essential so our psyches can do the bio-computer equivalent of "defragging our hard drive"--sorting all the impressions and feelings and such that we're bombarded with throughout our waking life, filing it all away in the proper "places", and making more room to start all over again the next day.

Funny--when I was in high school I HAAAATED analyzing the symbolism in fiction and poetry. When I was in college I grew to love it, and I got quite good at it. Now I use that skill to interpret symbols in my spirit work--and yet sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees in my own dreams!

I have kept a dream journal for years (yes, this one is definitely going in!) and it's helped me make sense out of a lot of dreams--things become clearer as I write them down. And then there are some, like this one, where I need HALP!!

Aw, c'mon, Celebration--I shared my weird dream with a Harlequin-gooshy ending--spill yours! Spill! Spill! Spill!

Just kidding. I know there are some that are too odd to ever expose to the light of day. ;)

3. symbols
I think I have a tiny bit of problem with control, as far as symbols go. I actually *use* symbols constantly. But they have to make sense to ME. I can't take anybody else's symbolism and necessarily make it work for me (unless I muscle test it, LOL, and it works for me).

I always repeat this story that I read in "Amazing and Wonderful Mind Machines" By G. Harry Stine.

I actually turned it into jpeg format so I'll post it as a pic. Think of the Hieronymous Machine as a radionics device, and a "symbolic" Hieronymous Machine as a picture of the inner workings of the Hieronymous machine. (ignore the one misspelling here)

So, his adding things, is merely drawing lines.

4. Belated thoughts, realizations, additions
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 01:34 PM by MorningGlow
As I was writing this down in my dream journal, I remembered that the pond was in a cow pasture. Cows = Brigid. :D

I also remembered that wells and springs were sacred bodies of water linked to Brigid, and worshippers used to throw items into the water when petitioning her. Why not a statue of her, perhaps into an underground spring overgrown with grass (the grass in the dream was VERY green and lush)?

Brigid is linked with Imbolc. Right time of year! :D

FWIW...

On edit: Brigid is the goddess of poetry, and this man and I are both writers...

6. the answer lies somewhere in your "edit"
I'm not familiar with Brigid, really. But I think this somehow has to do with the love of the written word. Brigid may be the symbol for that, but she hasn't written anything lately, if you get the drift.

You like your work appreciated and loved. The person in the dream really embraced your work, over some kind of idealization of poetry and writing. I think it's a wonderful dream.

Uh, unless there was sex involved. Then it could be something entirely different.

7. ROFL ROFL ROFL
It was a very G-rated dream! :( ?

It could have something to do with writing--as I wrote in my previous thread, I had an astral conversation with him, and he told me the purpose of our connection was that I was going to help him with his confidence (not sure what that means), and he was going to help me with my writing. We shall see!

5. Brigid, a really powerful feminine goddess, so powerful that she became
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 02:06 PM by Cleita
a Christian saint. St. Paddy couldn't get rid of her when he converted the Irish to Christianity. She is also associated with wells, which would be the pond your friend jumped into. I think he is being inspired by this goddess to change his path in life, but he has rejected her. She is a mother goddess. Maybe her Christian form might be more acceptable to him. You are getting this dream to contact him and help him in his dilemma and the choices he needs to make.

8. I'm very fond of Brigid
'Course, I have Tuatha blood running through my veins, so she's naturally near and dear to my heart. She's visited me before, but it's been a very long time. It's good to hear from her again.

I like your interpretation of the dream--thanks!--although I can't say whether or not my friend has examined his life path recently, as we're not in touch, and haven't been for a very long time. So I also don't know which "face" of Brigid he'd prefer. He's always struck me as completely religious-neutral, actually.

I would like to contact him very much, but I suspect it's not time yet. I tried to leave a comment for him online and it disappeared into the ether--never was posted. I took that as a sign to hold off for the moment. Perhaps I should contact him again in the astral realm instead...

9. MG - I think perhaps the key to the dream is that he was 'always hanging around' - as you said
and I assume he's not anymore? I think in the dream, you were both you and the statue/goddess he worshiped. Perhaps some conflicted feelings going on there?

10. Very interesting, Matariki
Yes, he hung around for a couple of weeks very strongly back in November, then that tapered off, and now he only stops in on occasion. Our connection is much less intense than it was a few months ago.

The same thought, that in the dream I was both me and Brigid, crossed my mind, as well. She and I have a "history", so to speak--she is one of my personal goddesses/archetypes, although I don't chat with her as much as I probably should. I also found it interesting that I wasn't even in the first half of the dream! I'm usually IN the entirety of all my dreams, you know?

Anyway, he could be having conflicted feelings--if I had to hazard a guess, it might be his disbelief that we're "visiting" on the astral plane at all. I don't think he thinks he's capable of that (last I heard, he wasn't actively into metaphysics, although I believe he's talented in that regard and could do great things--and him visiting me is evidence of that). And if he's holding off, he might see me as a supernatural critter who IS capable, but then disbelieving it's possible at all, and rejecting "me" because of it. Which is ironic, because HE sought ME out on the astral plane! I've known other guys to get freaked out and run away from that much "power". Is that what you were getting at?

11. How did you feel about him hanging around?
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 04:31 PM by Matariki
It's always a mixed blessing to have someone idealize us and see the Goddess in us ;-) It taps into something both true AND false about ourselves. Do you know what I mean? Ultimately the person is either projecting their idealized self (anima) onto you, or seeing all your 'perfection' and none of your 'faults' i.e. not seeing you as a real and whole person.

That's sort of what I thought your dream was about - you divided into both your 'ideal' self and your 'human' self - and the human self feeling rejected or not good enough. But the dream has a happy ending!

on edit - I meant that I think the dream didn't have so much to do with him as it did with you integrating and accepting all the parts of yourself, even those parts that you consider less than divine.

13. When he first showed up, I was shocked, surprised, and puzzled ("why me? why now?")
But I soon realized I enjoyed it very much--it was flattering that he would "look me up" after so long. Plus he's a very charming person. It was quite different, too--I'd never had a "living" person visit me in waking life that way.

Yes, I could very well be feeling insecure about how he would react if he visited me IRL. Not that I would encourage that, anyway, as Mr. MG might not cotton to the idea.

14. Update: Learning more
Hi Matariki,

I just saw your edit, and lo and behold, can share another dream that seems to agree with your assessment. This time I was in a room, and my friend came in. I turned around to greet him, and I was wearing a necklace made of the same stone that the statue was carved from. It was a triple strand of large stone discs, the largest, on the bottom strand in the center, as wide across as my palm. Just massive. I realized that of course the stone is Connemara marble. Figures, right? Ireland...Brigid...Connemara marble.

Anyway, I found it significant that I was wearing the same stone that the statue was made from. Brigid's reminding me that I have the goddess in me, alongside the human parts, for sure!

So thank you! :hi:
