Are any of you
hopping on the Facebook bandwagon?

A dear friend who was moving to the Orient encouraged me to join back in November.

Then quite honestly, I forgot about it entirely.

Until a long lost friend sought me out this week.

It's kinda fun to see how varied and wide one's contacts can be.

It has it's flaws but still, it's fun to reconnect with people.

I'm listed as Stella Noir but there is at least one other.

I'm the one from RI with the purple heart, granted to me kindly and most graciously by helderheid.

pm-me for my e-mail if you choose to join.

luv you all

each and every one of you.

1. How exactly
does one trace old friends on that site? People use real names?

7. Many use real names and there are all sorts of regional, activist, charitable, and alumni networks,
Though I've hardly mastered the navigation of the site at all.

2. I've had five invitations to Facebook
within the past month or six weeks. Facebook has been around for several years now; it's interesting how so many in the older generations are now getting into it.
Stella, your experience in people seeking you out recently is so consistent with what others are experiencing.
Do you know of any astrological explanation for this?

8. Yeah after the first
I had 10 more but I thought my computer was having an argument with the site so I ignored them.

I heard a report on the "rahdio" about how myspace initiated this phenomenon amongst college kids and facebook took over with more older people participating. It's kinda urious.

Neptune and Chiron conjunct in Aquarius might explain part of it.

Last week's Mercury conjunct Jupiter might explain the most recent flurry.

3. I think it interesting that so many people over
... well, our age have joined up and are on Facebook this winter. Is it something needed on a higher level or is it just because it's free fun?

I'm on there and will send in my 'friend request' this am. :hi:

4. Someone invited me to join this week
but I've heard that Facebook mines every bit of data on its members and sells it to corporations for marketing purposes. I don't want to be make it easy for them by putting up personal info.

11. Ok this is funny
I mentioned in my profile that I liked to kayak. The next thing I know I get ads on how to become a boat captain. LOL.

I'm a sort of minor user of Facebook. I just joined to look at some pictures my kids posted. Then a sort of long lost second cousin found me, and she actually took it more seriously. So sometimes I post what I am doing. "is going on a field trip" was the latest. Nobody bothered to ask me where (wonder why, I am not in the right demographic for this stuff).

I won't wait 'til you ask. I went to a cotton salvaging plant.

Most of my "friends" are friends of my children, or children of friends of mine. It's kind of fun seeing what they are doing.

5. I'm on there ...
.... I like it as a way to get a big picture view of what's going on with my friends. I don't spend hours a day on it but it's fun.

If anyone wants to "friend" me, PM me for my info.

6. Having two kids stuck on MySpace all the time
I had no interest in the more mature equivalent, until all my relatives back east and overseas starting inviting me to join. I accepted their invites, but still resisted until recently. I love going on and seeing what everyone's doing, the little mundane things that you don't realize can actually make you feel closer. Last week, an old boyfriend from high school sent me an invite, sharing pictures of his grandkids. There's also progressive people inviting me to join their cause. It's really wonderful.

10. well hey there stella!
Ya, I have been reeling from the blast from the past too... doing alot of karmic clearing from earlier lifetime stuff too. (see my thread here about ghosts from the past)

I would be interested in knowing what transits are causing this interconnectedness to happen - especially to so many of us at the same time.

Years ago, my girlfriend compared the internet to our innate ability to be connected and communicate telepathically...that we neded the internet to "remind" us that we could really travel around the globe and find information as fast as a thought. This sems to be along the same lines. It is a intercennection between soul groups, so as we cross over into the new vibration we are "holding" eachother...?

hmmmm....interesting stuff indeed!

14. It is all of a sudden for a lot of people.
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 12:39 AM by liberalmuse
The same day my coworker told me I needed to get on Facebook, my sister's coworker was telling her the same thing. It's really weird how Facebook has been around for awhile, but it's kind of exploding. Also, my best friend who lives in another state doesn't really do computers, but asked me about Facebook because she has been having a lot of dreams about reconciling and talking with old friends. I ended up finally getting her a laptop (I've wanted to get her a computer for years, but never had the money) and now she's online and on Facebook.

12. I will not join Facebook - don't trust it.
They collect data on you and build marketing/social profiles that they sell to anyone.

Besides anyone who wanted to could find me via Google.

13. I did a couple months ago.
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 12:35 AM by liberalmuse
That's normally not my thing, but a coworker talked me into it. I've found a few long lost friends, one, my childhood friend who I've not seen in 20 years. We grew up in Albuquerque, NM and oddly, I found out that she lives only an hour away from me up in Washington. How odd is that?

I actually joined Facebook back in October 2007 because I wanted to sign up for a million people for Colbert thingy, though I never made a profile or anything until a couple months ago.

when ASAH Dora started going over there. Look her up if you get the chance. She would love it.

edit: Oh. Just remembered to caution everyone that does decide to use it. You may have seen the news stories about potential employers, or even current ones, doing online research into everyone. So, use discretion. If you don't want your boss to know, maybe don't post it on FB.

I'm on Facebook. I'm finding it quite strange! (And not as clear-cut and easy to navigate as I expected, but I'll figure it out.) I'll look you up! :hi:

18. Wait until people start throwing you things
And giving you gifts and punches. I mean, it is flat out weird. The second cousin whom I really love and who probably is a fundamentalist Republican, (we just reconnected on Facebook, and I have seen her in person only once in decades) is always sending me these bizarre things. When I try to receive them it seems like I give up privacy or something (???)

Apparently some people freaked out when they recently tried to change the privacy policy, and Facebook had to backtrack.

I will say this--I think it is a good place for people to see each other's pictures.

19. I got my first invite a couple weeks ago
But I'm not joining at this point.

The CEO is a very young kid with very little respect for other's rights to privacy. Not only do they mine every bit of data for resale, for a while there they were actually using people's data in advertisements. It caused members problems, there was a big fight, and he wouldn't back down. Eventually he did, once he realized it would come back to bite him hard.

What I remember in particular was that a man bought his wife expensive diamond jewelry as a "surprise" present, and the next thing you know his purchase was featured in an advertisement. The surprise was ruined, but to me that's only the obvious problem. I really wouldn't want friends, family and casual acquaintances to know how much $$ I'd spent on a gift for somebody. Talk about causing problems in relationships, not to mention making somebody a potential target for a thief!

20. To be honest,
I kept hearing about it, and I visited it, but I never actually "got" it.

I didn't know what I was supposed to be looking for, what I was supposed to be doing, or what purpose it served.

I still don't.

21. I just joined last night. Sent you a friend request tonight
I've mostly been on MySpace because I like the ability to be creative in my accounts. Facebook is kinda weird so far. I did find an old friend I knew back in grade school, but she's now a fundie, OY! I'm surprised she didnt' de-friend me when she saw I was a Dem and my religion is "New Age Smorgasbord." ;-)
