I wanted to post something here to maybe help some who are struggling
with intuition and want to learn inner listening. I think many of us don't quite believe what we get or perhaps don't get anything so I thought a little encouragement was in order, especially since the first visionary and intuition thread is underway now. I hope it helps.

We all miss many things intuitively, usually the small things, we just didn't see it coming or we don't know why we feel uncomfortable or delighted after hearing/seeing something mundane. In my opinion paying attention is the very first skill set that should be taught in every initial metaphysical class.

A fleeting thought that seems to be disconnected from anything conscious is many times our first hint that something needs attention. If we pay attention we soon learn to categorize the thought into a feeling or other sensory experience that will guide us. The practice of listening will free us from our self imposed limitation in remarkable ways. Getting beyond what others tell us about ourselves, and the unified beliefs systems we are born into is powerful and freeing.

As is taught in all spiritual circles, we are much more than just our bodies and beliefs. As children we are limited to believing what our parents and teachers tell us is personally and socially appropriate. Carolyn Myss in Anatomy of the Spirit tells us tribal mind creates belief patterns that limit us and that our spiritual power grows when we are able to see beyond the contradictions we are all taught. Breaking away from tribal thinking is a big step with huge personal rewards and listening to our quietest thoughts will help to break us free from negative and limiting beliefs.

Giving ourselves permission to explore and listen in ways many call “woo” is helpful for anyone learning to hear the intuitive voice we all have.

Dropping all judgment from what we get and going with the first thing we get when practicing with the intuition is a great practice. Don't get discouraged if you are wrong, we all have to filter what we come away with and sometimes we misinterpret the information.

Let go of all preconceived notions of what is possible and keep in mind that we all have abilities unique to only us. Take the first step (or 2nd or 50th) and practice listening. We have nothing to lose in learning to hear and trust our own voice and the time is ripe for doing just that.

1. Yes, I concur
And very well stated. Thank you.

Every time you feel tempted to say "It can't be", you can program another voice within you that asks "why not?". That is helpful in dropping judgments.

2. How do you do it - do you stop yourself in mid thought?
I was hoping that others would have insight and personal experience to add. And Thank you!

3. Not sure, it has gotten easy
I do start making judgments. "That's just too ridiculous." Then the alternate program kicks in. It starts with a little chuckle, I think. And there is logic as well. "Yes, but ten years ago I would have thought distance energy treatments were ridiculous." Another chuckle. Then, a sigh. Finally, the conclusion "I don't think I buy it right now, but anything is possible." Then my head just sort of automatically nods yes.

I have to admit that it is kind of interesting having a thought process like this.

Honestly, it has helped for me to have a lot of experience muscle testing. I do get some ridiculous answers sometimes. They make no sense but I just go with them anyway. And, I allow myself lots of leeway to be wrong. It is okay to be wrong. Noone is right all the time.

4. Concern about how it will look to others
Edited on Sat May-09-09 10:36 AM by BanzaiBonnie
Yes, worry about what the "tribe" will think. That is a big stumbling block.

When I get a message now for someone, I just go ahead and make myself tell them. No matter how weird it seems to me THEY usually glean value from the message. The message is for them and their sake, not me and my sake.

I work with a worldwide group of energy healers and I made myself deliver this message yesterday. As I read it over it felt more and more true:

Hello friends,

I don't know why I feel so connected to the ******* ***** boy but I
have received more information to share with you all.

This will be helpful in understanding how to treat.

I see a halo around this boys head. It's like the stained glass of
saints in churches. It's really beautiful and colorful.

My understanding is that the energy is moving upward from lower/material
levels to higher levels. He needs more grounding energy directed in
his behalf, after all, we do live in this material duality.

This boy is very special and has an outstanding service to perform for
humanity. If he can find his voice there will be no stopping him.
The growth that is current is a memory of when his voice was silenced.
He needs to know that it is just a memory and a reflection of his
fear. This will be resolved successfully.

His mother is closer to the truth of this. She will understand more as
this process moves along.

If there is anyone in contact who can reassure this ******, that will
help greatly. We who are physically far away can send reassurance in
whatever way seems most appropriate to individual modalities of
healing work.

10. Hey Lauren, thanks
And this morning I woke to an email sent via my contact person. It was from the aunt of the little boy. The little one we are working on is far removed from me so there is no way "I" could know anything about him.

I haven't been able to talk to J's mother, but did have a chance to talk
to his dad. I told him of the healer's message and was surprised at his
response as he comes from a Greek Orthodox background and reference to
past life and energy type healing are contrary to his beliefs. However,
he said he and his wife (my niece) have often noticed an aura
around his head and have remarked on it. They also feel he is an "old
soul". He also loves to be the spokesman and gives speeches e.g at his
7th birthday, so he connected to that bit too and of course they think
he is destined for greater things.

And now it makes more sense to me too. It was the Greek Orthodox thing I was picking up on. It's wonderful to get confirmation of the messages sent to people.

5. Many thanks for a beautiful and encouraging post.
I've found myself challenged by sudden awareness of my intuition. It speaks to me of what I need to manage my path, in sudden and beatific messages of assurance, advice, consolation. This is new, and I am filled with gratitude when they come, because there have been moments of deep despair that have come between my husband and me, and I am often flummoxed by what the next step forward is.

I continue to listen to myself, and I have faith in my knowing. Thank you for your affirming words.

8. Wonderful post, Lauren!
Having a mother who just had what we called "her vibes" about stuff convinced me at an early age to pay attention to my spidey sense. If she said not to step one foot out the door, foots were not steppin! heh As I've gotten older, I've learned to pay attention to my intuition and to really ACT on it, regardless of how I felt (egoically speaking). One of my wonderful teachers, Rose Rosetree, taught me to just go with whatever it is you get. And I try to live my life that way. Gotta tell you, I've never gone in the wrong direction by doing so. Is it scary? Yes, sometimes it is. But I trust that it's for my highest good and I just jump off the cliff and fly.

The more you do it, the easier it gets to trust because you've had the direct experience of seeing the result. Although I got to see it firsthand with my mom, I didn't really integrate it until I tested it out. Try one day a week of living by your intuition and see what happens! :)
