what in the heck is going on this week?!?!
Although passers-through drive like maniacs (60+ in 45 limit) so far there haven't been any serious accidents in the 6 years I've lived here.

And now 2 within 4 days -- the last one just half an hour go practically just across the street and up about 50 feet. Apparently the young woman (who sobbed that she didn't know what happened, she was just driving along :eyes:) had 1/2 mile earlier at a narrow, curved hilly stretch with poor visibility, careened by someone at "about 80." She made it about 1/2 mile before flipping and landing in a ditch by the side of the road. She is walking & talking, and the ambulance just drove off with her after turning around in my driveway. Happily the woman she passed caught up with the accident, stopped for help across the street, and stuck around to give her report to the police. And there is a line of rush hour traffic growing outside my window waiting for the road to be cleared.

4 days ago was further away, but far worse. I took Luna for his leash-training walk to about a mile up the road, a little past the "flats" (where a mountain lion was spotted a few years back!) and then across the street and back home. On return, I crated him up with treats and drove Jake up the street in the opposite direction to the lake for a swim. Just as we got out of the car at the lake, a cop flew by with siren and lights going. Turns out a couple kids were speeding and lost control (or passed somebody in a blind spot?) and hit a neighbor driving the other way just a couple hundred feet from his driveway. Apparently they were going so fast (100+ according to rumors) the vehicles were folded in half. The kids' car flipped and caught fire. One was thrown free of the car; the other trapped under the burning car. Both were critically injured but survived. My neighbor, who just retired a few months ago, was killed instantly.

There is now a roadside memorial where my neighbor died -- almost the exact spot where Luna and I had crossed the road just minutes earlier. :scared:

1. I don't know what to say but how
utterly awful about your neighbor and I am glad you and Luna and Jake are safe. I just hope that your neighbor's transition was peaceful though physically traumatic.
I don't believe in coincidences so I'm guessing that you are a witness to life's changes in its most dramatic way for a reason. Thanks for sharing this because I can totally get caught up in my own petty dramas and forget that it all can change or end just like that.

2.  3 emergency craniotomies and one Triple A yesterday in the OR
Freaking weird. The air even feels strange. It seemed to ease only slightly today.

3. oh, so sorry
I know that was traumatic for you and everyone. Thank goodness all is well with you. That is just terrible about your neighbor. It does seem to put more petty concerns into perspective.

I'm not sure what is going on, what with the shooting today and everything.

Jeez.

5. Rather than make this an OP..

Let me tell ya'll about the WORST storm I have ever witnessed. And I've seen some Texas weather!
The electricity just came on after about five hours.

I was asleep about 7 PM, and the wind kicked up as it is prone to do when a thunderstorm comes in. But THIS time, stuff was hitting the side of the house. I took one look out the window and knew this was no regular wind storm. The lights started flashing on and off. The power goes out frequently in those storms, but I have never seen them flashing on and off. My room is on the north side of the house and it was being pelleted by something (I later found out green pine cones and tree branches). Something was banging and I finally figured out the front door was swinging open and shut! Housemate was nowhere to be seen. I shut the door, grabbed my cell. No cell tower signal. Grabbed a candle and my cigs and went to the dining room in the center of the house. All this time it sounds like a freight train coming through. Out front it did not look like straight line winds. I was convinced we were in a tornado. I went back for my sweater and socks. Boogie and I are tripping over each other. I finally got sat down and here comes housemate. He had been STANDING OUTSIDE WATCHING! What a moron he is. :eyes: One big tree limb fell right on top of the cyclone fence between our and neighbor's driveway, missing both pickups. The huge organic pumpkin plant is torn to shreds. One shutter and one turbine were blown down. There were emergency vehicle sirens for a solid three hours later after the wind stopped. Chain saws could be heard. One car alarm is still going off.

Housemate went out to get candles, and everything in down was shut down. No traffic lights. No electricity.

The Half Human guys predicted winds being primary during the summer climate situations. I've yet to check to see how hard it was blowing...

Just :wow:

eta: 80 mph winds

Here's a pic of the limb that fell right on top of the fence:

23. Glad you are OK Why Syzygy
This almost sounds like a tornado. We were under a tornado watch as well. Heavy winds in Austin 60+ mph winds and some tornado funnels were sighted but luckily none touched down.

Your neighbors got lucky that the limb missed their trucks. Good for them.

Texas weather sure can be crazy! I was just bitching about the lack of rain in Austin and with absolutely a zero chance of rain we get a flash thunderstorm. I promise I had nothing to do with it.

Back to our regularly scheduled drought and Texas heat.

Sonia

I've been wondering what's up. I know it was a full moon, but it seemed particular intense this weekend. Lots of confusion and tension.

9. I'm glad you posted this, I was wondering yesterday if something was going on astrologically
We had an anti-freeze leak in our building at work and the whole place had to be evacuated. One young guy who sat near the leak passed out from the fumes and 911 had to be called. That was weird enough. Then the Holocaust Museum shooting.

So I was kind of wondering if there was something up myself.

13. The Second American Civil War has been in full swing for a long time now.
What we are seeing is the final conclusion of it....
Right will triumph.

16. that has been my experience in ordinary reality
I determined some years ago that, from at least the war on Iraq, if not Afghanistan, it has been neighbor against neighbor.

The war of words heated up before then, but it was sometime around '03 that it seemed to become overt. It was then that the proxy attacks on me, via injury to my horse (later my horse again, my land, attempts at my puppy and a 3rd round on my horse), along with the employer battery (via contaminated well) began.

Now, at least where I'm at, the assaults seem to have died down as everybody is too concerned with their own survival to have time for hate crimes. Or maybe it's the eye of the storm, while they regroup following the actual election and installment of Obama...I don't know.

15. Goodness, the drama....
I'm so sorry.

I'm simply lost. Have felt lost for a while...no short-term memory, no passion, no interest in anything really. The engagement was a two-hour exciting event, then I was back to the lost feeling.

I feel like Dory from "Finding Nemo"...but not nearly as pleasant as she is. ;)

Where am I? Just keeping swimming, just keep swimming.....

17. I've been feeling similarly
plus spent the last 3 days sleeping a *lot*. It's been cloudy, rainy, drizzling and cold out, so sleeping has seemed fitting.

And then yesterday afternoon I smartly pulled out The Four Agreements for re-study. It's been a few years since I read through it. . For years I've wished I had the time to sleep in on a rainy day, and then when I finally could...I felt guilty about it. Until I re-read the book and realized I really needed the rest.

I plan to tackle Overcoming Fear during tomorrow's rain. Then will move on to Mastery of Love.

If you haven't read these books, I highly, highly recommend them.

19. OMG, that is sitting next to my bed.....
waiting for me to read it.

I read it years ago. Am feeling I need spiritual nourishment but can't tackle a long read right now.

I reached for "The Four Agreements."

You've inspired me to start reading it with that bit of synchronicity.

:)

20. wow! mine were on my bookshelf
until 2 days ago, when I brought them to bed with me. They've been sitting by my bed since then.

I could only read a paragraph or so the first day, and then fell asleep for the afternoon. Read more yesterday, then fell asleep again. Read some more last night. Read through the rest today.

:woohoo: Be inspired. It's ok to just read a sentence or so at a time.
