Dream Interpretation Request
I had a very vivid dream that I was in a plane crash the other night. I've also been having 'death' premonitions off and on for a few months now. My dreams have been really vivid since I moved late last month, like they were before my brother died.

The Dream: Myself, my sister, nephew and dog were going on a long flight overseas. The plane took off okay, but it wasn't long before we hit turbulence and started dropping. I figured it was only temporary until I noticed one of the stewardesses getting really nervous and I asked her if we were going to crash, and she said, 'Yes'. That's when the plane started falling out of the sky at full speed, but oddly, just before we hit the ground and I was preparing for impact and death, it landed roughly, but smooth for a plane that had been falling out of the sky. I woke up as we were awaiting instructions on when we could disembark.

The weird thing is, my daughter is the only one who plans on taking a long plane trip soon, and she was not even in the dream. I've been lying awake at night feeling as if something is going to fall through my ceiling or hit me- in other words, that I will experience a tremendous impact and then it will all be over. I should mention my company is due for another round of layoffs next month, and that my mom is dying of cancer, and someone smashed into my car a few weeks ago, and my neck snapped, but there was not a scratch on my car or the lady's who hit me, and I did not experience any whiplash. I suppose this is simple stress, but the dream was so vivid, it unnerved me. And the weird thing is, my luggage consisted of a carry on and some dumbells (hand weights). I stashed my hand weights in a compartment where another passenger had stashed his. Any thoughts, or did I just interpret my dream (simple stress)?

1. Very strong impression
Hi LM! My initial, very strong impression, is that your dream is completely symbolic (no plane crashes in your imminent future--or your daughter's). As we've all agreed here in this group, we're going through a hell of a transition right now, and it feels like a rollercoaster ride. Or hey why not a plane crash? But the most important thing is that the plane landed safely. We're going through some rough times, but it's all going to come out all right (although we will be shaken up). Also important--your luggage. You had a carryon only=you have everything you need for "the trip" with you--in this case, as part of your person. You are self-contained, capable, not in need of any new elements of your personality or your spirituality. You have everything you need already. The dumbbels=your strength. You are strong enough for the trip. You will be fine.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through so many rough events in your life right now. I hope things calm down for you soon.

3. Thank you so much.
Your interpretation really resonates. I didn't think it was literal, but it was very troublesome waking up after that. I've been lying awake at nights as it is worrying about my mom. She's very stubborn and will not get all the treatment she needs. Darned religion is worth than meth for some people. It's messed up her mind, so she is unable to make rational decisions. And of course I love my daughter very much and worry about her plane trip to New Zealand in the fall. Again, I appreciate your taking the time to respond.

6. The first thing that popped into my mind as I read your dream also
was that it is symbolic. The fact that your daughter is not in the dream means it's about you.

14. That's interesting.
I'm glad she wasn't in the dream, then. I absolutely adore that girl.

9. In my dream I was holding the hand of future boy with my bags packed in a train station like place.
Bags packed ready to go, but not quite ready to go thru the future door... I think all our dreams are speaking of a trip, journey, step forward into new. Your trip was a long journey.. you arrived when you thought you were to crash.. and just before you got the instructions about what to do (the future, you awoke). AND as you indicate, there's lots of chaos in your life.. seems like you will land safely and smoothly when the ride is over.. hang in there.

16. When I'm under stress I seem to have a lot of plane almost-crashing dreams.
It's always the plane is trying to get over something or under something and barely makes it, or is trying to take off and has to clear an obstacle. I've had a few that were turbulence, but mostly the types I've mentioned. I always think the plane represents my feeling a lack of control, since I can only watch in horror hoping the disaster is averted! I like MG's interpretation that you have everything you need and the strength to get there even if it's a wild ride. And I hope things ease up for you very soon!
:hi:

2. I agree with MG, the dream is symbolic
although I'm very sorry to hear about everything you're going through!

I, too, have been having premonitions of death, but I believe it's because my dad died this spring. It's just a natural response to that event (I hope).

The dog is interesting, though. If every person in the dream is, on some level, a symbol for you, what does the dog represent? Have you been too loyal to this company that's getting ready to do more layoffs?

4. I've had my dog for 12 years and I worry she's going to die.
I read the life expectancy for a Chow is 8-11 years, so I check to make sure she hasn't passed in her sleep at night. My dog is in very good health and her blood work and heart look very good, according to the vet. She does have a touch of arthritis, and experiences some stiffness, but doesn't appear to be in much pain. I did the same with my daughter when she was a baby. I checked her every night to make sure she was breathing. All my life I have felt undeserving of anything, so the fact that I ended up with an awesome daughter was just too much for me to believe- you know, too good to be true. I also really like the new place I've moved into and am afraid of losing it, because again, it's too good to be true. That also carries over to my job.

As far as the layoffs- my boss says she loves me and wishes everyone was like me, but of course in these instances, that means nothing. I'm making decent money, but it is a pretty stressful job, though I've learned a lot there. And then I feel sick about those who are unemployed right now. A lot of unemployment benefits are set to run out in August. I hate the fact that so many people are struggling and I'm not right now, though I have most of my life. I guess the main problem is, I'm way too self-involved and worry too much about things I can't change.

5. Wild ride but you'll make it through...
I had a similar dream last Thursday night/Friday morning. (I'll relate as the similar dreams may point to collective subconscious) I was driving a car I had gotten rid of three years ago (the last car I owned,) took a curve on the highway too fast and rode for a while on two wheels before flipping. As it was happening I braced myself, preparing to die, but ended up sideways with all traffic stopped behind me. Firefighters pulled me out of the car and I woke up grateful to whoever called for help.

I hope your problems all resolve, and that you aren't laid off. I hope your landing is soft.

7. You know, that reminds me
about a dream I had a few weeks ago--same thing, except my Jeep went off a cliff but landed safely.

13. Oh my god, that is too strange!
There definitely is a pattern here. This is the 3rd of this type of dream recorded here on DU in the past few weeks. I'm just glad we all ended up safe in the end. :D

11. Weird!
This forum is really interesting. It seems at times a lot of people posting here have similar dreams. I'm glad you were pulled out in this dream. In the far past, I've had dreams where I was nuked or electrocuted. I probably should remember the real life events that happened after those dreams, but I don't because they were so long ago.

8. Sounds like you interpreted your dream yourself.
You're having a wild, turbulent ride these days in your life (you've got high ideals too, high hopes) but you can sense you're going to have a crash and hit bottom, see some of those ideals or hopes come down to earth, but it's not going to be as bad as you expect. You'll land on your feet and survive to fly another day. You're being supported and helped by your inner self it sounds like.

Good luck.

15. I had another dream about a plane and an emergency landing last night.
Edited on Thu Jul-30-09 09:59 PM by liberalmuse
This dream was deep in the ether, meaning it was one of those dreams that isn't exactly close to reality. I was on a plane and again it was going to crash. The captain, who reminded me of captain Sully decided to land the plane on Highway 101. He radio'ed the control tower and the lady asked, 'You're going to land the plane on a highway?' (she wanted him to try and make it to the airport) and the captain answered in a very confident voice, 'Yes I am'. Then my consciousness was there as the plane was landing, watching as the wheels touched down on the very smooth, newly paved road. Then I wondered about any people who might be coming down the road. The captain was aware of this, but his thoughts were, 'So be it' because his job first and foremost was to ensure the plane and all it's passengers were safe. Luckily, there were no cars on the road as the plane landed. We then had to wait for someone to come and service the plane and provide us with another flight. I ghoulishly hoped this one would crash so I could just get this thing over with. This was and the 3rd dream about a plane crash in so many weeks. I don't remember the 2nd dream all that much. The captain in this dream was dressed in a crisp uniform and had an air of competence and authority. He reminded me of Captain Sully or President Obama- and I can't help but wonder if the captain represented the President. I don't know if it was me, because I could hardly be described as 'competent'. I'm more puzzled about this dream because it took place in a dreamscape I rarely go, very deep in the ether. I just thought I'd write it down.
