The Moon passed first quarter yesterday — we are now a week from a lunar eclipse. As we have been reporting this would be the third eclipse in a month; and the second lunar eclipse. Currently the Moon is in Scorpio, at this moment crossing the midpoint of that sign. This puts the Moon square Nessus in Aquarius — remember that this eclipse is conjunct Nessus so we are, and will be, exploring that energy for a while.


To sum up, on the most basic level of the functioning of relationships and society, Nessus is about what a bunch of treacherous little shits we can be, if and when we feel like it, or when we have a lapse of attention. There is a healing dimension: we get sick of it, the battle gets exhausting, we work out the karma or we get shot in the ass by our own poisoned arrows one too many times and get the idea that perhaps there is a better way to do things. Nessus can get someone to change their ways.

Nessus operates in two modes: when you understand karma and when you do not; or let’s say, since nobody really understands karma, when you are sensitive to it, and when you are not. Let’s contrast to Pholus, which is “small cause, big effect” — it has an inadvertent quality. Nessus operates by design. There is a plan; it may include revenge, or an intentional transgression; more often Nessus hangs out in that hazy area of what is potentially inappropriate. The plan may or may not work well; but one way or another there will be an effect.

With Pholus one is generally clueless or curious; Nessus takes us into the land of hazy ethics, side deals and secret deals: the stuff we think nobody is gonna find out about. It’s also about the kind of abuse you cannot easily see; it’s in the realm of supposedly normal behavior.

Just a thought - Nessus, which concerns abuse, is currently at 16 degrees of Aquarius which deals with the collective. I wonder if the C Street stuff started coming out around the time Nessus moved in to Aquarius. I also wonder what wounds and abuse of power will come to light as it moves closer to the triple conjunction of Chiron, Jupiter, & Uranus all currently R..

What you also mentioned about jupiter/chiron/uranus (which has been screwing with me since it first fired...) ALL being retrograde?

and the nessus energy ...if I am correct, seems to have this edge of how we abuse our own karma and refuse to change - even when we KNOW it is the right thing to do.... hmmm... very interesting, some self sabotage afoot, eh?

Eric Francis points out that for much of the 60s (& into the 70s) Nessus was conjunct the asteroid Hylonome. She touches on self-injury and self-defeating behavior. Hylonome in myth was a female centaur who's soul mate Cyllarus was killed in battle. She tried to save him, to revive him but could not and in a fit of despair killed herself by throwing herself on the spear that killed him so I personally feel she deals with deep emotional wounds to the heart. Nessus was still conjunct Hylonome when I was born and so is part of the biggest power structure in my birth chart so in my case at least it fits.... but back to Nessus.

It seems that Nessus points to abuse done to a person esp. the kind that screws with one's mind - see the myth of Nessus how after assaulting Heracles wife, Heracles shoots him with an arrow. As he is dying Nessus convinces the wife to save a robe stained with his poisonous blood to give to Heracles if she ever doubts his faithfulness. She believes Nessus, later gives the clothing to Heracles who dies painfully. It is kinda like the GOP how they convince people to act against their own best interests by messing with their minds. So maniuplation, abuse of power, convincing victims to victimize themselves or another. It may be a small thing like petty office politics or a school clique or something big like (imo) tricking the majority of congress and a number of voters that invading iraq was a good idea.

btw Nessus moves slowly so this asteroid won't be close to the triple conjunction for several months. Still with it being so powerful some of that energy might already be moving into that medly of power.
