Need white light for an MG kitteh

Desperately need good juju quick, my friends. Mr. MG took Dilbert, our first kitteh and alpha male of all our felines, to the emergency vet this evening. Apparently he can't stand up, is having trouble breathing, and has a crusty film around his mouth. The vet is going to keep him overnight and do bloodwork and X-rays, plus try to get him rehydrated, but they fear his kidneys are shutting down.

This is all very sudden, so it's taken us by surprise. A few days ago he was hiding out under the bed in the guest room and in MG Jr's closet, but we thought it was because he didn't like the noise the contractors were making.

I'm freaking out because I'm in California with MG Jr. and my mom, so Mr. MG is left to deal with this alone. Mr. MG is freaking out because Dilbert has always been HIS kitteh. He called, in tears, after he left Dilbert at the vet. We don't know what's wrong and don't know if Dilbert will survive the night. :cry:

Any white light and good vibes you can send would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

Dilbert is certainly a beaut. I'm so sorry to hear about this. Kidney failure is a real concern. Almost all my cats who have passed over, renal failure was the cause. :cry: If the vet can stabilize him he may hang in there for a while longer. I hope whatever decision you make will be the one that is best for Dilbert. We've had to make those decisions and it is NEVER easy. If you know what I mean.

Sending out healing thoughts...My mom and dad had a couple of great cats who went thru the same problem. One did several times. But with care they both lived to 17. So there is a very good chance he could pull thru.

7. Saturday update

Thanks, everyone, for the white light and love for da Dilbert kitteh.

The news from back home is that the vet found out that Dilbert has fluid in his lungs. It's turned out to be lymphoma. Mr. MG and I discussed it at length, and we agreed that Mr. MG will send Dilbert home this morning. If it's not too much trouble, please keep sending light to Dilbert as he makes his passage--and spare some for Mr. MG, who is still taking this very, very hard. MG Jr. also has tweaked to what's going on, so we're going to try a meditation in a little while to help send Dilbert on his way.

Dilbert will be fine; he is 12 years old and has had a very good life with us (we rescued him as a stray when he was 6 months old). I have told Mr. MG to hold him while the vet puts him to sleep, but to be sure to tell Dilbert to come back to us if he wishes--he's always welcome in our home.

It really is heartbreaking news :cry:

But I am a firm believer in cats coming back to their previous owners, especially if they were loved and cherished by their keepers.

9. Ohhhh, Pauvre Chat!

Hugs to you and your family MG, I know you are a good kitteh momma and he will most likely seek you out once again.

I have just been dealing with a sick kitteh too this past week+ and I was worried when the pus and wound "popped" that she had a tumor or something worse. (Luckily we went to the vet yesterday and she got a shot of antibiotic and some cleaning, but we may be able to avoid surgery.)

Dilbert has had a long life with you and I am sure he knows you care for him. It is amazong how those little ones just crawl inside your heart and make a home there... I am shedding tears for you both as well...

:hugs: Hang in there, and give Mr. MG some extra loving for being such a 'strong man' and let him cry on your shoulder too, it may help.


(PS FWIW, you should make another trip to CA in a couple months, our kitty is about to give birth and you can bring a kitten home!) ;)

I have always kind of thought that our four footed family members bring us such pure love and joy that they are like a star that burns to brightly to sustain for too long. We are only gifted with their company for such a short time, really.

12. Saturday update 2: RIP Dilbert

Mr. MG was with him when they put him to sleep a little while ago. It was definitely for the best, he said, as Dilbert was in very bad shape and likely would not have lasted another day or two.

Dilbert was an excellent kitteh. "Rough an' tough", we always said. He is now in a better place, but in case he chooses to come back to us, we will be keeping an eye out.
