I love this. I absolutely love this. |

I'm talking about the Cash for Clunkers program. Big clumsy gas guzzlers are being swapped for hybrids and subcompacts at record speed. HOW FREAKIN' BEAUTIFUL IS THAT?! And the program is so popular it ran out of funding in one week. (Sending light to D.C. so the additional funding passes.)
What. A. Change.
The world truly is evolving, a little bit at a time.
Now perhaps those dolts in the government and in the auto corporations will see what we, the people, REALLY want--economical cars with good mileage.

1. They have complied in the past. |

Remember in the '70s? Cars got smaller. Don't know what the heck caused rush to huge clunkers.

2. In the 1980s during Reagan, then Bush, cars started getting |

bigger again. No surprise. But things are changing, even though you wouldn't know it by watching the "news." Even WalMart stopped buying milk from producers that use growth hormones, because their customers demanded it. These little snowballs are going to become an avalanche, and I think even we will be surprised at how quickly it happens. Ain't it grand!!

I remember that, and the idea that we could solve this energy problem as a nation. Then the Republicans threw that out the window and have demonized President Carter every since, making actual leadership seem like political suicide. Our country really lost out during Reagan and Bush. Bill Clinton held on to good ideals by the tips of his fingers battling the Reps in Congress, then we went totally to hell and lost our souls to the corportocracy. These small signs of getting back our senses as a nation help me. But the Republicans fight it so hard. I just pray they don't win again.
Small signs of things getting better are good, but I doubt we will be fully on the right track until even more people see the mega-corporations and their Republican and religious right mouthpieces for what they are. Awakening, little at a time.

even as sales rise, and people are participating , and even in the face of $$ issues for MOST of us...we are still doing it!
Thanks for making me find a moment of gratitude in the mess we seem to be walking through as a collective (and personally...lol;) )
I have been weeping over the pics of Bill & AL this morning too... I feel WAY proud of the whole "Americans are the good guys again," feeling!
 thanks as always, Twin!
*sigh* I guess there is a good ray of hope that our tables are really turning - and that the new grids of light are already there/here ...and lifting us ever higher...
Happy Eclipse! ;)
