Kearsarge set to arrive in Norfolk today

NORFOLK, Va. — The amphibious assault ship Kearsarge, its strike group and 6,000 sailors and Marines are set to arrive at their Virginia home port Friday. They have been on a deployment for nearly six months.

Several other ships in the Kearsarge strike group have already returned after helping with security in the Persian Gulf and counterterrorism efforts. The strike group also helped cyclone victims in Bangladesh
