AF mum on convicted major’s missing hours

SEOUL — Kunsan Air Base officials released few additional details late Sunday concerning an Air Force major convicted of rape who was captured on-base Saturday, more than 24 hours after failing to show for his sentencing hearing.

Kunsan spokeswoman Staff Sgt. Alice Moore confirmed that Maj. Mark Seldes was found walking on base around noon Saturday, and that he went willingly with Air Force police who discovered him.

But she declined to provide other details about the search, Seldes’ motivation for missing the last day of his trial or whether he faces additional charges.

Seldes, a Kunsan flight surgeon, was convicted of rape, adultery, and conduct unbecoming to an officer and a gentleman on Thursday.

Kunsan officials began searching for him when he didn’t appear for his 8 a.m. sentencing hearing on Friday.
