BAUMHOLDER, Germany — It wasn’t a typical workday afternoon inside Company C’s barracks. The mood was relaxed, with barbecue on the menu as spouses mingled about. One couple even brought along the family dog.
For a couple of hours, the job for families of the 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment’s Company C was making sure their personal affairs are in order before soldiers deploy to Iraq this spring.
The event, a personal-readiness consultation, represents a new effort by Baumholder’s Army Community Services staff, which is meeting one-on-one with soldiers to discuss pre-deployment issues.
“We’re here to talk about anything that can be a distraction for a soldier downrange,” said Dan Furlano, a deployment specialist at Baumholder’s ACS.
In the past, such matters were handled in larger group settings, Furlano said.
