GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — The 2nd Brigade troops moving from Schweinfurt to Grafenwöhr this summer will work out of a massive new motor pool but must make do with temporary headquarters facilities for a least a year, officials say.
U.S. Army Europe announced last month that more than 3,700 “Dagger” Brigade soldiers — with at least that many dependents — would move to Grafenwöhr from Schweinfurt in the next two years.
Col. Tim Touzinsky, Joint Multinational Training Command chief of staff, said Friday that some of the first 2nd Brigade troops to arrive will work out of one of several new motor pools under construction on Grafenwöhr’s main post.
On Tuesday, workers were putting the finishing touches on one of the motor pools, which is between new barracks earmarked for incoming single soldiers and a ring road that allows soldiers to drive directly into the training area.
“They can roll right out their back gate onto the largest and best training area in Europe to do both live-fire and maneuver training,” Touzinsky said.
