A Draft of Bush I'd Agree With |
|
Back-Door-Draft?
If I understand the historical facts about Mr. Bush's not-so-complete military service ...
And if we are now seeing persons in their 50's being called back into service ....
And if, as we saw in 2003, Mr. Bush can still fit in a flight suit, walk the fighter-jock walk and strut the proud warrior strut, and as we were led to believe ... was able to function as a "fighter pilot" flying out to an aircraft carrier ...
The Pentagon needs to honor its patriotic charter and summon him back to active duty.

5. I'd like to see him called to task for his actions as well |
|
unfortunately, he has been issued an honorable discharge which prevents this. However, I wonder if there is a statute of limitations concerning desertion?

I don't think that the honorable discharge matters. Every person who leaves the military at the end of his enlistment or draft term is issued an honorable discharge.
Recently they called up a 70-year-old in California named Wallace who either served in Korea or Viet Nam.

8. Well, not everyone gets an Honorable.... |
|
Hello there, will try to answer this, no lawyer, but know a little about the UCMJ and discharges.
(Amateur JAG hat on)
The military has 5 types of discharges that can be given to enlisted members, these are divided in two groups
Administrative Types:These are given by a commander and reviewed by a discharge board(for the last two)
1) Honorable: Just as it says, service was honorable
2) General: Given for minor offenses or NJP(Art 15) in most cases, still keeps most VA benefits. May also be given with the words "Under Honorable Conditions"
3) Other than Honorable: The most severe administrative discharge, indicates misconduct just short of a court-martial
Punitive Types: These last two are ALWAYS the sentence of a court-martial, and are very, very damaging to a person's futures, and cause the loss of almost all VA benefits
4) Bad Conduct: May be given by either a Special or General Court-Marital, I would say maybe 85% of those convicted by court-martial get this vs the Dishonorable
5) Dishonorable: The most severe, may only be given by a General Court Martial, and generates an automatic appeal. Only given for the most severe crimes, those that carry sentences of greater than 10 years.
As officers are not enlisted, they do not get a discharge, but rather their service is classified as honorable or not honorable, and they may also be sentenced to a "punitive dismissal" by a court-martial(basically the same as a Bad Conduct)
Any JAGs out there, feel free to correct me...take care all

9. I was both enlisted and commissioned |

USMC (enlisted) 1974-80; and also in the SC Army National Guard 1980-1990 (commissioned officer). Concerning your statement, "As officers are not enlisted, they do not get a discharge...." Well, I received one after being released from the IRR (DD Form 256A).
On edit: The Dept. of the Army never issued me a DD-214 (with the Honorable Discharge) like I was issued upon discharge from the Marines. I know the DD-214 is the important document. So, I wonder, am I really a PFC (Private F'ing Civilian) now? (sarcasm)

ever see his honorable discharge? I have two, suitable for framing. Through thick and thin since Feb 1960 I have managed to retain the originals. I will show them to anyone that wants to see them.
Please Mr. Bush show me yours?
