Yongsan symposium puts focus on domestic abuse

YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Domestic abuse was the topic of discussion at Yongsan Garrison’s theater Thursday as people gathered to hear speeches, testimonials and participate in talks.

“The only way we can continue to prevent abuse is to keep talking about it. And to let people know it’s still out there,” said Capt. La`ketha Prioleau, a coordinator of the The Domestic Abuse Symposium. It was hosted by U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan Army Community Service personnel and the Zeta Phi Beta sorority.

Keynote speaker Maj. Leo Mora Jr., a chaplain, spoke about recognizing abuse and how to help those suffering through it.

He also talked about showing mercy to those who commit acts of domestic violence.

“Domestic violence is really a picture of the stress and turmoil the (perpetrator) is feeling within,” Mora said.
