Recruiters have mixed results in January

The Air Force exceeded its active duty recruiting goal for January, barely made its Reserve goal and missed its National Guard numbers by 21 recruits.

According to a Feb. 11 press release from the Defense Department, the Air Force Recruiting Service brought in 2,016 active-duty airmen in January, making 103 percent of its accession goals.

Air Force Reserve recruiters accessed 569 airmen, exactly what they were looking for. And the Air National Guard signed up 654. Guard recruiters were aiming for 675 sign-ups, so they are at 97 percent of their January goals.

At the end of fiscal 2007, the Guard missed its recruiting goal by about 1,000 and was 744 short of its end strength goal. Attrition is expected to increase during fiscal 2008, and, according to one Air Force official, the Guard will likely miss its recruiting goal again this year.
