CAMP CASEY, South Korea — A soldier who stabbed his roommate escaped conviction on an assault with intent to murder charge but received 30 days in jail instead for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon during a court-martial Tuesday.

A military jury also sentenced Pfc. Anthony Bailey, 40, to forfeit $1,300 a month for two months and to be reduced in rank to E-1.

Bailey, of the 498th Combat Service Support Battalion’s 46th Transportation Company on Camp Stanley, faced up to 20 years in prison for the original charge.

Bailey stabbed Pfc. Christopher Desanto, his roommate, at about 5 p.m. on July 14 because he was embarrassed about a video Desanto filmed of him stumbling drunk the night before in their barracks, prosecutors said.

Bailey then left the room with the knife, Desanto told the jury.
