If you leave the Air Force and have received the Air Force Combat Action Medal, you’re eligible for additional benefits from the Veterans Affairs Department, according to a VA press release.

Any airman who earned the medal qualifies for two years of free VA medical care once the airman leaves the service. For more information, go to http://www.va.gov/healtheligibility/eligibility/CombatActionMedal.asp.

The Air Force grants the Combat Action Medal to airmen who took part directly in ground or air combat since Sept. 11, 2001.
