RAYMOND, Mont. — A man identified as a Marine deserter was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Raymond Port of Entry.

Leon Anthony Soup, 43, was taken into custody by customs officers Sunday after a name check revealed that Soup was the subject of an arrest warrant as a deserter from the Marine Corps.

Customs spokesman Thomas Schreiber in Blaine, Wash., said Soup is a U.S. citizen who has been living in Alberta, and was seeking entry into the U.S. at the time of his arrest.

The warrant was verified with military authorities and Soup was turned over to the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office pending extradition.
