CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — A Marine charged in the killings of 24 Iraqis has been ordered to testify against his squad leader.

Lawyers for 26-year-old Lance Cpl. Stephen Tatum say they’ve been told he needs to appear at Camp Pendleton, Calif., court next month. He would testify against Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich, who faces the most serious charges in the case.

Both men face court-martials. Tatum’s lawyer says he hasn’t reached a plea deal and intends to plead not guilty.

The killings happened in November 2005 after a roadside bomb hit a Marine convoy and killed the driver and two Marines. The case is the biggest U.S. criminal prosecution involving civilian deaths in the Iraq war.
