JACKSON, Mich. — An ex-Army paratrooper who served two tours of duty in Iraq has been ordered tried on charges of raping and critically injuring a 3-month-old girl.

Kirk Coleman is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree child abuse, charges that carry up to life in prison.

Authorities say the then-27-year-old Coleman attacked the baby Sept. 14 in her home in Blackman Township, about 65 miles west of Detroit.

The girl sustained brain damage and 17 broken bones and is undergoing therapy.

Coleman told investigators he blacked out after drinking heavily and taking painkillers and awoke to find the injured baby in her crib, The Jackson Citizen Patriot reported. WILX-TV says he remains free on $100,000 bond.

1. How sick can a person be?
Did Iraq do this to him? Was he always a sick bastard? Imagine the cries and screams from the baby. Is this man even human anymore?

:argh:

I guess he's not considered a danger to the society.

4. Iraq vet
This heinous crime is heart-breaking. We wonder what those
"pain-killers" that the young man was using are? It
all seems rather suspicious to read that his lawyers seem to
think that he will get off for "burden of proof".
Wasn't a rape kit used, horrible as the thought is? There was
an article not long ago - we cannot find it now, sadly - about
military psychiatrists beginning to use small amounts of what
some know as the "rape drug" in conjunction with
therapy to treat depressed soldiers and vets. If that is that
case and this particular vet was using such a drug, it seems
that that should have a heavy impact on both the military and
big PHARMA. Just wondering.
