K-town general set to leave command
K-town general set to leave command
By Steve Mraz, Stars and Stripes
European edition, Thursday, February 21, 2008

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — A Kaiserslautern general who is part of an open noncriminal investigation has been nominated for a second star and will relinquish his command later this month.

But Army officials will not say where Brig. Gen. Scott West — head of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command — is headed, or who his replacement will be. A relinquishment of command ceremony is planned for Feb. 26, according to an Army news release.

Earlier this month, the Department of Defense announced that West had been nominated for promotion to the rank of major general. The Senate must confirm the nomination, which is currently under consideration in the Senate Armed Services Committee, according to Senate records.

Stars and Stripes reported in September that West was part of an investigation into noncriminal acts. That investigation remains open, Army officials said.

Maj. Tamara Parker, public affairs officer at the 21st TSC, would not comment on the situation because the investigation is open and directed additional questions to Department of the Army officials. Army public affairs officials at the Pentagon acknowledge receiving written questions on the matter submitted by Stars and Stripes, but did not respond with answers.
