Pacific brief: Gas prices rise in Guam, S. Korea

The price for a gallon of gas at Army and Air Force Exchange Service filling stations in South Korea and Guam rose this week, while prices stayed the same in Japan and on Okinawa.

On Saturday, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas will increase in South Korea by 8.2 cents from $3.025 to $3.107 and in Guam by 9 cents from $3.059 to $3.149.

Prices for other types of gas including midgrade and premium rose as well. Diesel fuel rose by 11.6 cents in Japan and Korea.

The increase is a direct result of fuel prices increasing in the United States, based on Department of Energy averages across the country, according to AAFES officials.
