UAV pilots can now attend Weapons School

ORLANDO, Fla. — The rated officers who pilot unmanned aerial vehicles and the enlisted UAV sensor operators who operate the suites of reconnaissance and targeting gear will now be able to make it a career.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley on Wednesday announced the creation of the two new Air Force Specialty Codes — and a major upgrade to UAV pilot training — at the Air Force Association’s Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando, Fla.

Starting in July, a select group of officers will become the first class of UAV aviators to attend the Air Force Weapons School, headquartered at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

The changes bring the burgeoning UAV positions in line with the training and job classifications most other aircrew positions already have.

“The Weapons School (course) is long overdue,” Moseley said.
