Senior NCOs in several priority specialties are being targeted for retention bonuses of up to $150,000.

In the first major overhaul of the Regular Army Critical Skills Retention Bonus program in two years, the service has focused its most lavish retention incentives on career soldiers who are at, or near, retirement eligibility.

Eligible specialties include a mix of combat arms, combat support and combat service support military occupational specialties that have critical roles in the war.

Most of these specialties require extensive training and experience.

Career Management Field 18, Special Forces, has the largest bonuses, with lump sum payments of $18,000 to $150,000 for service extensions of two to six years.
