Miramar barracks death under investigation

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating the death of a Marine who was found unconscious in his barracks room Wednesday morning at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., officials said.

The Marine was declared dead around 2 a.m. by emergency personnel after another Marine found him in the room, according to a station press release. His name and rank will not be released until his next of kin can be notified.

Maj. Jason Johnston, a station spokesman, said it has not been determined whether foul play was involved.

“We’re still trying to figure out what went on,” he said.
