COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man convicted in the rape of three military men and a boy has been sentenced to 178 years to life in prison.

Oliver Newell, 30, was convicted in November of 12 felonies, including kidnapping and sexual assault, in the rapes of two Air Force Academy cadets, a Fort Carson soldier and a 14-year-old boy. The assaults happened in July, September and December of 2006.

“I don’t know where all this started, or how it came about,” said 4th Judicial District Judge J. Patrick Kelly in sentencing Newell Friday. “But hearing the evidence and observing the victims it was, quite frankly, despicable. ... The effects on these victims won’t go away any time soon.”

One of the victims attempted suicide and is now in a wheelchair.

Prosecutors said the two cadets were picked up at a downtown bar in July 2006 and were either drugged or too drunk when Newell took them to his house. One man testified that he woke up while Newell was performing oral sex on him, while another victim told jurors Newell attempted to sodomize him.

2. Well, sometimes the court says "You shouldn't do that," which is pretty harsh
because we all know the woman was prolly asking for it.

4. Yup. Raping a guy is a crime. A woman? Not so much.
