2 midshipmen face charges of rape, child porn

The Naval Academy announced Friday that two midshipmen will go to Article 32 hearings on charges including child pornography and rape:

* Midshipman 1st Class Michael Pollard faces charges of attempting to distribute child pornography, obstruction of justice, possessing pornography in Bancroft Hall, making a false official statement and obstructing justice, and receiving and possessing child pornography, said academy spokeswoman Jennifer Erickson. The alleged incidents occurred between July 2003 and August 2007, according to an academy statement.

* Midshipman 2nd Class Mark Calvanico faces charges of rape, unauthorized absence, unlawful breaking and entering into a dwelling with intent to commit rape, and conduct unbecoming an officer. The alleged incidents happened Oct. 14, according to an academy statement.

Pollard’s hearing is March 24, and Calvanico’s is March 28, both at the Washington Navy Yard, according to the statements.

John Mica.

I lived there for a number of years and used to consider Mica to be one of the good repubs. The past few years, however, he has shifted toward the administration - perhaps being forced to, to salvage his position.
