CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Navy officials escorted a hospital corpsman to Delaware last week to face multiple charges of rape involving a minor, according to a Harrington Police Department spokeswoman.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Lamont Holbrook, 25, of Felton, Del., was turned over to police in the small town of Harrington, where he is accused of repeatedly raping a relative under the age of 14 from the summer of 2005 to March 2007.
Navy and Marine Corps officials on Okinawa had no details Friday on the investigation or on Holbrook’s current unit. Officials for the II Marine Expeditionary Force, the U.S. Naval Hospital on Camp Lester and Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa said Holbrook was not currently attached to their units.
A Marine spokesman said Holbrook “was transferred from Okinawa to CONUS in July 2007 for medical reasons.” However, Holbrook’s unit while assigned to Okinawa was not disclosed.
Although media accounts in Delaware stated that Holbrook was escorted to Delaware on Tuesday from Okinawa by Navy officials, a Harrington Police Department spokeswoman Friday night said Holbrook and his Navy escorts flew to Delaware from San Diego. She did not know how long Holbrook may have been in the custody of the Navy in San Diego.
