NORFOLK, Va. — Approximately 400 sailors who have been training in Virginia were set to leave today for the Middle East.

The Navy says the 400 reservists — from 44 states, Guam and Puerto Rico — were mobilized by the Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group in February. They completed six weeks of pre-deployment training at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, Cheatham Annex and nearby bases.

They were scheduled to depart Naval Station Norfolk, then fly overseas from Langley Air Force Base, Va. The sailors will work as customs inspectors in Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

1. A friend of mine in the Naval Air Reserves did that about a year ago.
Happily, he never left Kuwait and his deployment lasted only six months.
