Cyber Command HQ decision delayed again
Cyber Command HQ decision delayed again

The Air Force has again postponed a decision about where to establish a permanent headquarters for the new Air Force Cyber Command.

Communities in 18 states have expressed interest in hosting the command, and the Air Force announced Thursday that it will narrow that list to four or five finalists by the end of the year and announce a final decision by September 2009.

Air Force Secretary Michael W. Wynne said March 5 that the headquarters location would be announced by the end of 2008, but officials said he recently decided to delay the decision by several months.

The Air Force did not respond to a request for an explanation for the delay.

Bill Anderson, assistant secretary of the Air Force for installations, environment and logistics, recently sent a letter to the governors of the 18 states in the running to inform them of how the selection process will work, according to an Air Force press release.
