JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — About 300 Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based Marines are heading to Iraq on Thursday to begin a seven-month deployment.

The members of 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines are the last in the battalion deploying this week. About 600 Marines with 3/6 already left the base to return to the greater Fallujah area, according to a 2nd Marine Division spokesman.

The deployment marks the fourth for the battalion, which most recently returned from Iraq early last fall. The unit’s mission will include working alongside and training members of Iraq’s security forces and civil affairs.
