LAS VEGAS — Authorities in Nevada say a former Marine from Texas pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy, fraud, and identity theft charges in the theft of money from the bank accounts of Marines stationed in Iraq.

Edgar Hermosillo, 24, of El Paso, faces up to 45 years in federal prison and $750,000 in fines when he is sentenced July 7 by Judge U.S. District Judge Philip Pro.

Gregory Brower, the U.S. attorney for Nevada, says Hermosillo was an enlisted Marine from 2001 to 2005.

He admits in a plea agreement entered Wednesday that he used government computers at Camp Pendleton, Calif., to obtain personal information to access the Pacific Marine Credit Union accounts of at least 15 enlisted Marines.

Brower says that after Hermosillo was discharged, he used false U.S. government identification cards at Western Union locations in Nevada, Texas, and New Mexico to steal about $39,000 from 26 bank accounts.
