819th Red Horse Squadron returns to Malmstrom

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — When nearly 200 Red Horse airmen come home from various locations in Southwest Asia on Monday, they likely will be greeted by hundreds of friends and family.

Kylie Sywassink might just be the youngest among them.

Three-month-old Kylie, born Jan. 9, hasn’t ever seen her dad, Senior Airman Matt Sywassink, who has been deployed since Sept. 11. Sywassink, who went to Qatar after training in Wisconsin, has seen pictures of his first-born, but this afternoon will be the first time he’ll get to hold his daughter.

“I know he’s going to cry,” said Aubrey Sywassink, Matt’s wife. “I’ll probably cry because of his reaction to seeing her.”

Matthew Sywassink and the other members of the 819th Red Horse Squadron will land at Holman Aviation around noon Monday and then be bused to Malmstrom Air Force Base, where their families and base personnel will welcome them home, said base spokesman 1st Lt. Justin Brockhoff.
