Airman found dead after standoff at Scott AFB

Officials at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., say an airman who barricaded himself inside his home on the base has been found dead.

Authorities were called to the base shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Traffic coming and going from the base had been delayed while crews worked the incident.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the individual's family,” said Col. Al Hunt, 375th Airlift Wing commander. “It is a true tragedy to lose a member of the Joint Total Force Scott.”

The name of the airman is being withheld until his family has been notified. The cause of death is under investigation.
