82nd GI dies from wounds suffered in robbery

ANNISTON, Ala. — An Alabama soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, who was shot April 12 in a robbery outside a nightclub in Fayetteville, N.C., has died from his injuries.

Spc. Sergio Sanchez, 22, of Oxford, died early Saturday from complications due to a gunshot wound in the neck, said Jamie Smith of the Fayetteville Police Department.

Sanchez was shot around 3 a.m. behind a nightclub after he walked up on a robbery in progress and also was robbed, Smith said. The shooting remains under investigation.

Sanchez had returned 45 days earlier from Iraq duty with the 82nd Airborne Division.
