Army wants Navy, Air Force officers to join its ranks
They've been trolling around for months now, and they aren't giving up: http://www.navytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-1873133.php

The Army still needs officers from the Air Force and Navy to go green. Under Blue-to-Green, Air Force and Navy officers who are approved for transfer can move to the Army without changing rank or component. And those who sign up for three years in the active duty net a $2,500 signing bonus.

The bonus is retroactive, so officers approved for an inter-service transfer on Jan. 6 or later are eligible for the lump sum bonus, according to Army personnel officials. But bonuses will not be paid until an officer arrives at his or her first duty assignment with permanent change of station orders in hand. Military and civilian schools do not qualify as duty assignments.

1. Aren't the Air Force Officers...
the one's who've been proslytized into radical Christian beliefs?

Of course, I tend to think all Christian beliefs are radical; but the particular church evangelizing the Air Force Academy really is cult-like.

2. It's all about END STRENGTH, you see
The Congress picks a number, that number represents the total number of personnel who can serve on active duty at any given time. This number is divvied up amongst the Services, and further divided according to pay grade and skillsets. What's happening is, they're trying to shove already-trained personnel into the YEEHAW!!! Army, because the greatest need for personnel is in Iraq.

Here's an article that discusses how they are trying to bribe people to leave the USN: http://stripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=38015

Under a new program, eligible officers would bid on how much money they feel they are entitled to separate voluntarily, said Jeri Busch, military compensation chief of staff for the Chief of Naval Personnel.

Officers must have between six and 12 years of experience and be in specialties that are overmanned or have skill-sets that are no longer needed, officials said.

Maximum award levels will vary depending on specialty, but the average payout is expected to be between $55,000 and $60,000, Busch said.

The Navy hopes to entice between 200 and 300 officers to leave the service through the program this fiscal year, Busch said....

Of course, if that doesn't work, and they don't get enough volunteers, they'll do some amusing "force-shaping" (read=boot up the ass) to get the number where they need it.

5. Friend in Norfolk says navy types are being strong-armed into green.
Guys with 17years in are being told "you want your 20 and retirement benefits, you'll do it in green."

And training submarine sailors in firearm usage for three days and then having them do security on convoys in Iraq is INSANITY.

4. Interesting article
It wouldn't surprise me that the AF promotion board weenies were told to get tough and pass over the marginals in order to supply the Army with potential warm bodies. Robbing Peter to pay Paul; that always works so well. :sarcasm:
