NAPPANEE, Ind. — A soldier from northern Indiana has died of injuries sustained in a January roadside bomb explosion in Baghdad.

The soldier’s family and a funeral home say that Staff Sgt. James P. Snyder, 48, of Nappanee died May 10 at Fort Benning, Ga., where he was being treated for his injuries.

His mother, Donna Snyder, said he was on his third tour of duty in Iraq. He also served in the 1991 Persian Gulf War and had 21 months left before his retirement.

She said her son had six surgeries in three weeks after his injuries and had metal rods inserted in his legs.

Snyder is survived by a wife and three teenage children.
