APPLETON, Wis. — A three-hour ride Wednesday from Fort McCoy ended with Army Reserve troops cheering wildly at familiar sites on their return to Appleton from duty in Iraq.

About 45 soldiers from the 395th Ordnance Company rode the bus from the Army base where they had arrived last Friday. In Appleton, they transferred to trolleys that paraded through the downtown.

“Jimmy Johns!” one shouted when they drove past the sandwich shop, and the other soldiers burst into cheers.

“City Center!” yelled another, again followed by a roar.

At Appleton’s Reserve Center, their waiting families poured into the street.
