Wife freed as stabbing ruled self-defense
Wife freed as stabbing ruled self-defense

SAN DIEGO — A woman who stabbed her Marine husband to death at their Camp Pendleton home has been freed.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns ruled that Joy Medley killed Sgt. William Medley, 36, in self-defense Oct. 26, 2003. and there wasn’t enough evidence to warrant a murder or manslaughter trial.

From her sister’s home in North Carolina, Medley said she’s amazed and overwhelmed by the judge’s ruling May 29.

The murder case was being tried in federal court because it took place on a military base.

Medley said her husband of 10 years punched her several times and told her, “If I’m going down, I’m going in a bag. You are going to ruin my career.”

1. She should get at least manslaughter. I'm not comfortable with abused women
premeditatavely killing someone and getting off with no time at all.

2. From the story posted, I have to disagree...
IMO, the way the story reads, she was being assaulted and defended herself. However, I will have to read more into it before I convict her for what appears to be self defense.

3. I didn't really read the story. If it wasn't premeditated then fine. She was defending herself.
There is a case in Canada before the courts where the woman, an abuse victim, waited until her husband was asleep before she stabbed him. In her case I would want some jail time.
