NORFOLK, Va. — The Navy Warfare Development Command is breaking ground this week for its new headquarters at Naval Station Norfolk.

Rear Adm. Carlton B. Jewett will attend and participate in the groundbreaking ceremony Thursday.

The command’s current headquarters is on Coasters Harbor Island in Newport, R.I.

Norfolk will become the new home as directed by the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission.

The $23 million headquarters is scheduled to be completed by September 2009 and will be occupied by March 2010.
