Michigan guardsmen head to Latvia

About 25 Air National Guardsmen left Selfridge Air National Guard Base on Sunday to provide support and medical services to Latvia.

Part of the State Partnership Program of the National Guard, the medical services team will be deployed for two weeks. During that time, they will work with their Latvian counterparts to provide medical care, dental fluoride treatments and more.

They also will help bring aid to rural areas that don’t have access to health care.

The State Partnership Program started in the Balkans region in 1993 after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
