Army: Friendly fire may have killed Ranger

An Army Ranger killed in Iraq on Monday during combat operations may have died as a result of friendly fire.

According to a press release from the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C., the events leading to the shooting death of Spc. Thomas Duncan, 21, are under investigation in keeping with Army regulations.

“Initial indications are that Duncan’s wounds may have resulted from friendly fire,” the release issued Wednesday said.

Duncan, of Rowlett, Texas, was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Wash.

Duncan joined the Army in February 2006, and after One Station Unit Training, Airborne School and the 75th Ranger Regiment’s Ranger Indoctrination Program training at Fort Benning, Ga., he was assigned to 2nd Battalion in September.
