Army’s last active Personnel Services Battalion inactivate

European edition, Thursday, June 12, 2008

BAMBERG, Germany — The last Personnel Services Battalion in the active Army inactivated Wednesday during a short ceremony on Warner Barracks.

The 38th PSB cased its colors for the last time with soldiers from the Ansbach, Baumholder, Grafenwöhr, Hanau, Kaiserslautern, Mannheim, Schweinfurt, Wiesbaden and Vilseck military communities standing in formation.

Activated on and off since 1942, the 38th supported troops throughout World War II, Korea, Bosnia and most recently in Iraq and Afghanistan, providing human resources support, as well as postal services.

Jones said that four other units similar to the 38th have inactivated over the past several months.

"The inactivation is part of the implementation of the Personnel Services Delivery Redesign which improves efficiency and effectiveness of human resource management," according to a U.S. Army Europe news release. As part of the redesign, the inactivated PSB will soon convert to the 38th Human Resources Company, the release said.
