BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. — The Navy will start live-fire combat exercises Tuesday on a new riverine training range at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.

Capt. Evin H. Thompson, commander of Naval Special Warfare Group 4, said the sections of Mike’s River and the Pearl River allow for realistic training, adding that the shallow waterways and heavy vegetation provide conditions similar to those where special operations forces might have to conduct real combat operations.

The 3,500-acre range is managed and operated by Special Boat Team 22.
