Thousands of Marines face involuntary recalls
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. Marine Corps said Tuesday it has been authorized to recall thousands of Marines to active duty, primarily because of a shortage of volunteers for duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Up to 2,500 Marines will be brought back at any one time, but there is no cap on the total number of Marines who may be forced back into service in the coming years. The call-ups will begin in the next several months.

Next up will be the draft I hope. Then watch the reptiles squirm.

1. The WP had 2 stories about marines being sent for 3rd tours in Iraq.
One was on a bomb team and was killed on his THIRD tour when a bomb he was defusing detonated, and another about a reserve unit in DC heading to Iraq for the THIRD time.

What national psyche was Bush talking about when he said we're stressed? It seems to me a very small percentage of United Statesians are doing the fighing. Over and over again.

2. No cap - there's the catch - to this recall.
And that's why this administration has lost so much respect from the enlisted men in the Corps.

It's ridiculous to sign a contract with this government these days thinking they will stick to the terms of the contract.

Recruitment was down last year, and this recall will cause recruitment to go down again next year.

The Bush admin is breaking their pledge to the troops!

3. Breaking the Spirit but not the Letter of the contract.
Sorry, but that's the way I see it.

Hell, maybe I'll be recalled in time to continue my

Tours...

But, as long as millions are spent on advertising to Young Men that if the join the Corps they'll be as hard as a diamond, as skilled as Bruce LeeRoy at MCMAP and screwing every 19yr old blonde with 38DD tits they see, there will be plenty of recruits.

Oh and the Ruling elites still have Public Education System geared at turning out useful cogs for industry and the military from the lesser classes.

4. recall
Does anyone know the law(as in do any lawyers read this). My son joined the Marine Corps in June 1999, served about 4 1/2 years, and got out. He signed an eight year commitment in 1999 . He just receive orders to report in Feb. to be "screened". My question is, can he be extended beyond eight years. If he only agreed to serve eight( 4 active, 4 reserves) how can he be unwillingly extended beyond that. Please if anyone knows for sure let me know. Thanx

5. A lot has happened since 1999...
The world is different, and I'll bet your son is different.

Find a lawyer. You don't have the money? Find the money. Sell your/his blood if you have to. Find out what his rights are.

Get him out of there if you love him.

Try this problem on DU General Discussion and see if anybody knows what the scoop is.

6. I wonder if the pentagon tried to recall dead or wounded marines?
I read a story where the pentagon sent letters to soldiers telling them to report for duty but the problem was those soldiers had died in Iraq already. On a side note I just read a lot of Veterans Affairs Case Workers were laid off -
