BAUMHOLDER, Germany — Artificial turf at a playground on the U.S. Army Garrison, Ansbach’s Storck Barracks in Illesheim has tested above the recommended level for lead, according to the garrison’s public affairs office.

The test was conducted Aug. 14 and the playground was placed off limits the same day, according to Jim Hughes, an Ansbach spokesman.

The playground, the fourth in Germany to test above recommended levels for lead, remains closed and is scheduled for replacement in the weeks ahead.

Residents were informed about the test results at an Aug. 27 town hall meeting, where parents were advised on how to go about getting their children tested for lead exposure.

The other posts where lead levels tested high are playgrounds in Grafenwöhr, Baumholder and Kaiserslautern’s Kleber Kaserne, according to IMCOM-Europe.
