OAK HARBOR, Wash. — A land-based squadron of four electronic warfare planes is returning to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station after six months of combat in Afghanistan.

The Navy says 182 support and maintenance personnel for Electronic Attack Squadron 134, known as the Garudas, is scheduled to arrive Thursday. The four EA-6B Prowlers are due Sept. 26.

The Garudas flew 614 combat missions while maintenance teams worked 24 hours a day in 12-hour shifts to keep the aging planes in action.
