Lt. col. dies in non-combat in Afghanistan

PORTLAND, Ore. — An Army officer from Oregon has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Friday that Lt. Col. James L. Wiley of North Bend died Thursday at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan from injuries suffered in a non-combat-related incident.

The 46-year-old Wiley was assigned to the 27th Brigade Combat Team, New York Army National Guard.

The death was under investigation. Details were not available.
