FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The Army Special Operations Command says a soldier has died from an accidental gunshot wound in North Carolina.

The military said Tuesday that Spc. Travis D. Ezell died after being shot while at a private residence Saturday in Fayetteville. The case is being investigated by the Fayetteville Police Department. Other details weren’t released.

The 21-year-old Ezell, of Point, Texas, was a small arms and artillery repair specialist and was assigned to Company C, Support Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group. A former member of the 82nd Airborne Division who had deployed to Afghanistan, Ezell joined the special warfare unit earlier this month.

Ezell is survived by his parents, Sandra Almon and Randy Ezell. A private memorial service was scheduled next week.
