Airman convicted for porn still on the run in the U.K.

RAF LAKENHEATH, England — A convicted airman who has eluded U.S. and British authorities since escaping from the base Wednesday was still free Friday.

A nationwide manhunt was under way for Airman Jeremy Parrott, who slipped away from an escort at the Lakenheath hospital about 2 p.m. Wednesday. The 29-year-old gained access to his dormitory room before getting off base but does not have a U.S. passport, according to base officials.

U.S. Air Forces in Europe officials said Friday they are investigating the incident. Lakenheath commanders refused to release details about Parrott’s escape. They also would not say whether his escort, a military designee who is not with security forces, is suspected of being an accomplice. It is common for troops serving time to be escorted around base by nonsecurity forces personnel.

Parrott was convicted of two counts of possessing child pornography and one count of receiving it this summer. The charges stemmed from a Web site he accessed that was flagged by federal investigators during a sting operation.

Parrott, who was assigned to the 48th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Lakenheath, had served less than three months of his three-year sentence when he escaped. He also received a dishonorable discharge and was demoted in July. Parrott could face five more years of confinement for fleeing if found.
